Mar. 4th, 2023 05:17 amAs I wrote last night, if we wanted to do a large-scale shopping run, we needed to do so in the wee hours this morning or else put it off for a few days, if the weather forecast was to be trusted. Accordingly, last night I went to bed as early as I could, slept for about five hours (waking up one minute before my alarm), and then Lisa and I made the trip to WinCo Foods in South Reno. (As a reminder for those people who have asked in the past: not all stores in Reno are 24 hour, although of course the casinos are. WinCo Foods is an employee-owned grocery store chain that is open around the clock, though, and it is our go-to store for larger, heavier, and non-specialized groceries.)
With the weather clear and dry (for now) and almost no other traffic, it was a breeze to go there and back. We were almost the only customers in the store, although as usual at that hour there were many staff restocking shelves. Other than having to dodge piles of restock and there being some things out of stock that we wanted but that probably wouldn't be restocked until later in the morning, it was a very easy shopping trip. Indeed, we bought so much that I had to go get a second shopping cart. But we have enough space and it's reassuring to always be ahead on non-perishable supplies.
The only issue with driving home were vehicles with what Lisa describes as "laser lights" blinding us. One in particular really annoyed me because I slowed down to try to get them to pass me. They wouldn't do it. When I slowed down, they slowed down, and when I sped up, they sped up. I finally got fed up and sped up to the 70 mph speed limit (which I do not like doing when driving at night) to get away from their blinding lights.
I have a meeting later this morning, but I expect that a morning nap is in my future.
