Mystery in the Sky Over Fernley

Lisa and I saw a UFO tonight over Fernley. I mean literally a flying object in the night sky that we could not identify. We were unloading the minivan taking things that we'd bought in Reno this evening when I happened to look up and see a string of lights across the sky. At first I thought it was a larger-than-usual meteor breaking up across the sky. I've seen those a few times, and they're spectacular. But this lasted too long. I called Lisa out to the porch and we watched it continue across the sky in good order. It's too early for Santa Claus (and it was too long). We're not in a place where someone would tow a night-time advertising banner behind a plane like we've sometimes seen at sporting events. I said, "Maybe Galaxy Express 999 is coming in for a landing."

We watched it continue across the sky until it passed to the east out of sight. My camera wasn't good enough to pick it up with the light pollution from the ground. It was mystifying. But Google Was My Friend: it must have been a string of SpaceX Starlink satellites passing overhead. I'd heard about them, but was unaware of what they looked like. It was startling.
