Keep those ____s A-Coming

Thanks to those of you who have responded so far to my request for Match Game SF questions. I've been moderating the ones posted as comments to my LJ to keep them from being too visible to potential contestants. Keep sending me questions as you think of them. It's the one thing that's hardest about doing the show, really.

For those of you coming to Westercon, I'm also looking for production assistants, and furthermore we need an announcer because all of our usual deep-voiced friends don't look like they'll be there. If you think you could announce a game show, contact me and let's discuss it.

I've been asked to inquire if you need any additional panelists.

Possibly. I don't know how many of the Usual Suspects are going to be there. Chris Garcia has to be there (FGoH), but whether he'll be able to be on the panel I don't know. And furthermore, I usually try to get at least seven panelists committed even though I need only six so that if we have late scratches, there are people who can fill in.

I'm up for helping, both with grunt work before and after, and being Lisa's gofer as may be necessary. Darned if I know what my schedule will look like, though.

For those who only know me in meatspace, I am not an announcer due to being blessed with a voice like that of David Sedaris or Winnie the Pooh. But I'm big and can lift heavy objects. *grin*

A production assistant you shall be, then, particularly inasmuch as you learned a long time ago when Lisa gives directions, even if they don't make immediate obvious sense, that she knows what she's doing.

Yes, and her logic often becomes obvious as the plan progresses.

Are you interested in Match Gaming at Detcon1?

I'm afraid not. We're taking the train to Detroit, so there's no way we could possibly transport all of the kit it takes to make the game work. (It's going to be challenging driving the kit to Salt Lake City.) Not that we wouldn't like to do it; it's just that we can't do it justice without our tech kit. Generally, we've found that when we try to rely on the "local" kit, Lisa gets told things like "Don't touch our toys" by the locals, and no matter how good they are, they don't understand how to make the SFX we need.

(For example, one guy insisted that he knew how to do our sound effects, but he didn't understand the game well, and missed every sound cue. One of the reasons for the "think" music on the show is that it keeps people from starting to sing the "Jeopardy!" song, which usually happens after about three seconds of silence.)

Lisa says, by the way, while she's never had much interest in attending NASFiCs, your personality presenting the bid at Westercon won her over and made her want to attend more than most conventions.

Understood! Well, just know that we would have loved to have you do it!

Awww, shucks, thanks Lisa! I sure hope we can live up to her expectations. :)

We had a great all-staff meeting this weekend, so now it's just carrying the momentum through to the next 3 months. I'm glad you'll be there!
