Because there are both state and federal governments, there are lots of different sorts of taxation here. Casinos are taxed at both state and federal levels. Winnings are subject to federal income tax (and at least California income tax). Nevada has no state income tax. State lottery winnings are not taxable within the state in which they are won, but are subject to federal income tax.
