Supporting the Fire Department Toy Drive

Today at lunch, Lisa and I walked to the post office (as we often do) past the fire station. The fire department was conducting a Christmas toy drive for needy children. At Lisa's suggestion, after we collected the mail, we went into Family Dollar and bought a toy (taking care to find one that was mostly American-made), then donated it to the drive. It seemed like a good thing to do.

I am often envious of your walkable community. I don't walk nearly as much as I should, partly because so few of my destinations are close enough, and partly because Omaha drivers are in too much of a hurry to pay attention to mere pedestrians, so it's dangerous out there.

I'm glad to have an area around us that's walkable. And people do seem to obey the 25 mph speed limit in downtown Fernley, most of the time.
