Quiet Weekend

[livejournal.com profile] cherylmorgan's flight from Boston (where she was meeting with a client) was delayed for 2 1/2 hours, so instead of working a little late and collecting her at 9:30, I went home at a normal time, had dinner, and headed back to SFO at about 11:20 PM. Cheryl called me when her plane was on the ground and I was still driving on CA-92. Based on the timing, it's rather likely that her flight was passing directly over my head as I came across the San Mateo Bridge. This timing allowed me to avoid having to pay for short-term parking at SFO. I got to the United domestic arrivals and found a space along the curb, figuring I could wait just a couple of minutes, but an SFO police car came along to chivvy people along who weren't actually loading, so I pulled out to do another "orbit" of the airport. Of course, Cheryl got to baggage claim just as I was pulling back out into traffic, and her bag came off the belt shortly thereafter, but it wasn't that big a deal. Pity SFO doesn't provide a "park and call" very-short-term parking area like OAK and SJC. Those areas allow people to pull in for <30 minutes as long as they stay with their vehicle. I think this reduces traffic congestion.

It's also a good thing that I was at home and could come get her today, because her flight was so delayed that she would have been too late to get into BART to get home. That would have led to a $100 shuttle-bus ride back to Fremont (based on previous experience), at which point she said it would be cheaper to check into a hotel for the night and ride back to Fremont the next morning.
