Another roadside method of getting a too-tight wheelnut to free up is to put the wrench on the nut so the arm is level and low (this might involve turning the wheel) and pointing backwards, then put the jack under the end of the wrench and jack it up to turn the nut a bit and break the lock.
Sometimes wheelnuts, even if set to the correct torque, bind to the studs through age and corrosion. On a new-to-me vehicle I tend to take the nuts off one at a time and use Copaslip (particulate copper in a petroleum gel) on them before refitting. It means they will come off when you want but not before and corrosion and binding is reduced.
