I read today that Circuit City stores was unable to find a buyer and is going to liquidate and go out of business. Considering how badly they have treated me and Lisa, including making up laws (hint: US states can't have copyright laws, so don't claim that "Oregon Copyright Law" prohibits something), I'll say it couldn't happen to a more deserving company. Electronics retailers need to learn that hiring low-paid, unskilled workers to staff their stores is not a way to keep customers. If I wanted to have no advice or help, I'd order stuff over the internet and pay less for it.

So sad. Ages ago, like 1985, CC was the store that had well trained sales people. I was actually *pleased* that CC opened up a store in Los Altos; I bought several car stereos there, and they were very helpful making sure I had the right wire harness adapters. But about 10 years ago they got taken over by some jerk who thought a good idea was to fire all their old employees and thought letting them re-apply for jobs at entry rates was generous.

Mike and I were discussing the Circuit City situation yesterday, and I made the same point: the primary reason that CC and CompUSA went belly-up is that they stopped hiring people who knew what the hell they were selling.

As Mike noted, if we wanted to buy product from someone who didn't know anything about the product, we'd go to the Intertubes or to the dreaded Wal*Mart. Specialty electronic stores aren't going to last with minimum knowledge employees.

Apparently they don't like knowledgeable customers. I have vivid memories of the day I had to stand in the middle of Circuit City requesting - politely, but in my they'll-hear-this-one-in-Jersey voice - to speak to a manager because the sales jerk was refusing to sell gvdub a big screen TV.

Not surprised they are going under.
