I usually try to avoid letting my tank get below half full since I live in California and this is earthquake country. If there is ever a really big one and electricity is out then pumping gas is difficult but with half a tank you can probably drive away from the worst of the problem. Also I have been told (but not verified myself) that running the vehicle with low amounts of fuel in the tank is not good for fuel pump.
