Sailor Moon The Movie

Having been pointed at the video by an article on Tor.com, I can say now that I am impressed by this fan-produced live-action Sailor Moon film, which is sort of the opening segment of what could be a feature-length production.

Okay, yes, it's not a full-blown professional production, but I think it's really quite good. And its production values are significantly better than the Doctor Who movies in which I participated in the 1980s. (Although at the time, I reckoned we were doing about as well as the BBC did in the 1960s.)

I've seen this and it is pretty good. It is easier to do high quality fan films now than it was back, also. It is amazing what I see in fan films at Otakon every year.

What Doctor Who movies were you involved with in the 1980s?

We did two: The Zombie Legions and Those Darn Daleks. Links are respectively to the "making of" and previews. Follow those links and you should see the Vimeo page with the individual episodes. Both were three-part Doctor Who amateur films, produced by my friend Rick Hallock and directed by me. The first of the two also featured me as the Fourth Doctor.

I think it's quite promising that fan films can rival professional works of 20-30 years earlier. I know I've seen some very nicely done fan things over the years, and we can only look forward to more cool stuff in the future.
