The Conrunning Experience

[livejournal.com profile] debgeisler pointed me at this picture that sums up the convention-running experience.

Yep, that's about right. Although my mother is the person who turned me on to reading SF in the first place, so she's not particularly critical of my conrunning hobby. (She thinks it was pretty cool that she got to hold a Hugo Award, actually.)

That seems alot of what I am trying to do in Anime USA. My mother is happy that I'm doing something I love in my day job and the other matters.

Yup, that's a nice summary. The worst part about herding cats is wanting desperately to fire someone but not being able too because they might take their toys that are needed by the convention.

Boy, do I identify with that! My father used to criticize my convention activities until I pointed out to him that through fandom I have learned photography, travelled extensively, and gained life experiences. He became more respectful after that.

As I've mentioned in the past, I have my Worldcon running on my professional resume. It sounds much more impressive when you say, "CEO of 5,000-attendee international literary conference with a staff of 250 people, with responsibility for a budget of approximately $1 million."

It also sounds a bit scarier that way, too.

Yeah, I used conrunning on mine too for a while (haven't run anything lately, so it's mostly rolled off).

Hi, Kevin! Rene pointed this post out to me for the graphic, and I'm intrigued by the numbers in this comment. The comparisons to Arisia are really interesting! :)

(I, too, put my con running experience on my resume. Anything I spend a decade on deserves to be printed, once in a while.)

Mind if I add you?

Sure, no problem.

This is a great set of photos. Keep herding those cats, Kevin!

Looks about right to me. *grin*
