Kuma Bear Likes Helsinki

Although he's not allowed to vote, [livejournal.com profile] travelswithkuma knows who he'd be voting for in the 2015 Worldcon Site Selection if he could. He'll do his part to campaign for the Bid With Bears.

Heh. As my bear Softly had his own membership to a UK Eastercon a few years back, I argued fiercely - but, tragically, unavailingly - that he ought to have his own votes too on the awards ballots. No taxation without representation, we say, and he had paid a whole pound for his badge...

As a co-sponsor of the inaccurately-named "Teddy Bear Amendment" that disenfranchised non-natural persons from voting anything other than "No Preference" in Site Selection (and not being able to vote at all in the Hugo Awards), I stand partially to blame for Kuma Bear not being able to vote.

Seriously, though, in a hotly-contested three-way race, I know exactly how any of the bidders would feel about stuffed animals, pets, and clubs and associations voting, because I was in precisely that situation in 1990 representing the San Francisco in 1993 Worldcon big against Phoenix, Zagreb, and the write-in bid for Hawaii (that eventually came second).
