Where I Spend Too Much of My Time

Regular readers of my writing here will recall that I often walk to the Fremont Centerville train station for exercise, to watch trains, and sometimes to even catch a train. I noticed on my walk today that there is now a Centerville Station webcam with two angles on the tracks and one on the inside of the cafe that is inside the station building.

Incidentally, the track-level camera is mounted inside (that is, facing out from) the room where SFSFC has been holding their board of directors meetings. Maybe the next time we meet there (November), I could get the directors to pose in front of the camera.

I actually travel at least once a month by train to get to the meetings for the con I help run. The conductor on the 9:01 AM Amtrak train out of Rednecksville on Saturdays and Sundays knows me by name and how much it costs to Washington, DC. I truely enjoy the train. Half of me wants to go to Denver or Chicago for Worldcon 2008 by train. I can't take the train to Columbus.

At Smofcon this year, you *must* go to dinner at Jack Stack's or Lidia's Italian. They are in old train depot buildings (apparently giant old warehouses for storage of goods from cargo trains). I suspect you'll love the area, if you haven't seen it before.
