I Hate Being Sick

I got an astonishing amount of work done today, despite having red, watery eyes, a growing cough, and a stuffy head. And every medication I have that might go after the stuffy head says its contradicted for high blood pressure and diabetes, so I'm just having to tough it out. My blood pressure was up about ten points over five this morning even without taking any medication, but that may have just been pressure to get work done while I'm sick.

Lisa called from Oregon this afternoon. Based on our symptoms, we think she's about one day ahead of me on this, so she told me what to expect in the next 24 hours. I'm not looking forward to it, but given that she thinks she's starting to feel better, it's good to have some promise of a light at the end of this tunnel.

Besides, I need to be well by Friday evening, because that's when the open kick-off reception for ConStruction is. Remember, all of you local to the Bay Area and interested in conrunning: the Friday night desert social at the Hilton San Jose is open to anyone with an interest in conrunning. Membership in ConStruction is not required.

If you don't see me there, it's because I'm trying to protect you from my germs.

Steam! Long hot showers! Hot steam vaporizer with Vicks VapoSteam in it in your bedroom/working space. Or the smaller face type with the medication disk. But the full room one is better, longer steam period and it will even help the cough.
I can't take the nose medicine if I want to sleep. They all wire me for their duration. They are great during the day time though! My blood pressure is normal until I take one of those, then I'm wired for the duration!
And the High Blood Pressure kinds are just Anti-histamines, which put me to sleep. So I never could take those.
But I can use Steam Humidifiers without a problem of side effects, and the menthol smell is soothing.

Can you ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend something? There must be something you can take that would make you feel better.

And some things don't say "you can't take this if you are have diabetes," but rather "check with your doctor if you have diabetes."

I hope you feel better, soon. I would fill out an application for SMOFcon scholarships, but I don't know how to answer one of the questions on it. How would I getting this scholarship to SMOFcon would help bay area con running? The problem is that I am on the wrong bay to help out San Francisco/San Jose con running.

It's okay to answer that question honestly, a la "It's not likely that I would be able to help Bay Area conrunning." One of last year's applicants didn't even live in the USA, and one of the winners did not live in one of the nine Bay Area counties. I expect the scholarship committee would use locality as a tie-breaker; that is, give two applications that were equally good, they'd pick the Bay Area resident over the other.

But, like winning the lottery, if you don't apply, I can guarantee that you won't win.
