I previously wrote about the humorous messages that the North Lyon County Fire Protection District has been posting on the fixed-location sign in front of fire station 61. They also have a portable sign that when not needed for an emergency sits at the opposite end of the station. They seem to be taking the same approach to using Sign 61 that they are to the fixed-location sign.



Yep, that's about the size of it, all right.

The sign should be proud to be associated with that organization. Looks like a nicely designed fire station. For instance, they didn't *have* to add the brick trim but that shows at least one step above pure utilitarian.

It's a good enough station for now, and it is I think at least the second or even third station on the site. (It started as the Fernley Volunteer Fire Department. They've preserved Engine No. 1.) But the very-long-term plans call for it to be replaced, as it's too close to the street (which is also US-50A/95A; former US-40) and it has other issues. But before they do that, they need to be able to build a third station to serve the growing industrial area, and before that, they need to figure out how to staff it in a city full of people who think All Taxes Are Evil.

Thanks for coming up with the next line of the song. That music was going through my head ever since I first saw this sign.
