Stockpiling

As I had Friday off, Lisa and I risked another trip to Reno to do the rest of the shopping. Unlike the previous Friday run to Reno, which took close to eight hours, we were only in Reno about five hours, but it was still stressful and tiring. We filled up the minivan with lots of groceries. The goal is for us to be able to stay home for Thanksgiving and for at least the two weeks after that. We expect that people ignoring advice to stay isolated will engage in lots of super-spreader events that assure that many of their family they gathered with at Thanksgiving won't be here by next Thanksgiving.

As I've said before and will continue to say, to some extent I do not care if other people engage in suicidal behavior. What does bother me mightily is their insistence that their freedom includes the freedom to try and take me with them. If their idiocy didn't endanger my life and the lives of people about whom I care, I'd encourage the idiots to go forth and earn their Darwin Awards, doing their part to increase the aggregate intelligence of the human race.

I did the same last Thursday, for much the same reason. I'll still need some fresh produce in the interim, but I should be able to get some at the outdoor farmer's market. I'll also need to get toilet paper; they were all out at Costco. Panic buyers, again!

I wouldn't say we here hoarding. We've been steadily buying a bit more of non-perishable items on each shopping trip for the past few months. Even before the pandemic, we've been aware that it's prudent to be able to get by for a while without being able to go to the shops. So we don't think we've put too great a strain on supply chains, and we have a big enough house that we have some overflow space for non-perishable items, including a closet full of bottled water, just in case.

Bunkering In

I started slowly increasing my supplies n the summer, when it became obvious that covidiots would not take precautions. I still need some stuff, but I won't shop on weekends if I can avoid it.

If it weren't for the fact that they're trying to kill me and mine, plus risking medical people too, I wouldn't care if they chose to roll the death dice. But really, they do not have the freedom to infect others, and they need to pay a penalty for their attempted murders.

Unfortunately, we seem to have a whole lot of people whose conception of "freedom" is "I can do anything I want to anyone I want without any sort of consequences, and how dare you suggest that I should show personal responsibility for anything!" That's being childish. And they dare call people like me "snowflakes!"

Yep, and that is why the US is becoming a failed, disease-ridden nation state.

I can't figure a cure for the problem that wouldn't be just as bad as the disease.
