Lose that Tail

A couple of days ago, Lisa noticed one of the various lizards that are having a high old time with the hot weather shading itself near the rear patio.



She got out the camera with the better zoom and tried to take a picture without startling the lizard. As she did so, she noticed something unusual about this lizard and zoomed closer.



This little one had lost its tail. We know some lizards can do that.

We wonder what almost caught this lizard but was left with only a loose tail.

Cool shots. Different specifies from the lizards around here (the generic western fence lizards, aka bluebellies).

We have two different types of lizard that we've seen here. Some are like this one with the black neck-band. The others seem a bit thinner, have no band, and (normally) have very long tails.
