Coming to SMOFcon has little or nothing to do with whether you've attended a Worldcon.

In many ways, Smofcon has at least three functions/personalities:

  • It's a place for upcoming Worldcons to do some recruiting for staff and brainstorming of ideas;

  • It's a place for people who've been too busy working at all the other conventions they've been at all year to catch up with their friends (who've also been busy working at conventions;

  • It's a chance for conrunners to try to share some information, some skills, some knowledge, with each other, in hopes that we'll each add something to our conrunning skills.

It is in many ways a working convention -- I'm willing to bet that at least some of the conversation around the poker tables was still focused on cons and conrunning.
