Pacing

Something I'm going to have to pay close attention to at the conventions I'm attending this year (Westercon/BayCon, Worldcon, and World Fantasy Con) is pacing myself. Kayla is going to get pretty excited, and that could lead to overwork. I love Worldcon, but we'll be turning sixty years old in August, and going without sleep is something that I could do much more easily thirty years ago than now.

I suspect that getting enough sleep is going to be a huge issue for us. I hate the idea of having to take mid-day naps or something like that. Worldcon is apt to be the biggest challenge, particularly inasmuch as I'm saying in the party hotel, which is the farthest away from the convention center, so even getting back to the room for some rest in the middle of the day is going to be a challenge.

John and I are in one a bit closer to the convention center but our older bodies aren't likely to be up for too much back and forth or late nights either. Looking forward to LA's compact site.

Quiet lounge areas can help for short breaks. I've advocated for coat/bag check facilities at previous Worldcons which have usually come down to a lack of people to run it or space for it. A reasonably priced secure check room would help both day trippers and many others for whom trips between hotel rooms and convention functions are tiring/not convenient.

Nice.

And that reminds me to check with my Hugo Ceremony dept heads about "dressing rooms" for the finalists/acceptors who may need such. I know Meg and others have provided make-up/accessorizing etc. help at previous Worldcons.

I was surprised to be told I was the first one to suggest a coat & bag check room for the Spokane Worldcon, but apparently nobody had thought to ask the question before I did. As things turned out I never actually used it myself, but I saw it and the con had lots of storage space, much more than the walk-in closet I'm used to seeing at Norwescon.
