Spot that City

From [livejournal.com profile] smofbabe we pass along an interesting geography quiz. I got to level 10 of 12, and about 44000 points (you need at least 50000 to move to the next level), mainly after getting into trouble with needing to identify a number of African nations very quickly. I'd done pretty well up until then, and was surprised to see that the quiz considered Calgary and Winnipeg to be "hard."

Canada (no province lines shown) is a big featureless space on their map. Since the quiz grades you on distance, trying to figure out exactly where in that giant expanse Calgary and Winnipeg are is indeed a bit of a challenge.

level 11, with a final score of 485,553 and a traveler IQ of 124.

It wasn't easy. I scored 557,255 points, and traveler IQ was 131. (I made it through all 12 levels.) I had actually been to or near some of these places, which helped a lot. My worst miss was for St. Helena, by more than 5,000 kilometers.

I ended up with 189,000 plus points and made it though level 6. rwl you just rock with your geographic knowledge. My Iq is only 96 compared to your 131.

I suck at the African continent. I got to level 8 and scored 25031.

My hand/eye coordination was bad enough that I couldn't move past level 10 even knowing where most of the places were.

I came in just under 50000, but I had at least 3 misclicks while moving the cursor. I didn't even click, but the wonderful Vista laptop took them as clicks. Without those I would have surpassed 50K. Sigh.

There is a certain amount of luck involved, especially in the later rounds. When presented an unknown city, it helps that it be in a small country. Islands too small to actually appear are another bad case. My ideas of where the Marquesas islands are, are all relative to other islands not plotted on the map either.

(609,358 pts, level 12, "IQ" 136)
