Travel Travails

Lisa called this afternoon to tell me that her pickup truck broke down in Tonopah, Nevada. She can guess what's wrong, but needs to have a mechanic look at it. More news when I find out more. On the bright side, she was able to nurse the truck into Tonopah and get a hotel room before it quit running entirely, and thus she was not stuck out on a desolate stretch of US-95. Thank goodness this did not happen while we were out in the boondocks northwest of Pyramid Lake.

Tonopah is apparently a lovely little town. It's got a world-famous mining museum, and a few other sight-seeing things around town. It's one of the stops on my list for this summer.

I just offer this as a "hope she can make the best of lemons" while waiting the shortest possible time for repairs.

Boondocks

Well, yes and no. For most of the world, Tonopah, (population 2,500) would be considered the Boondocks. But, in central Nevada, it is indeed a welcome oasis, particularly if you are having car trouble.

I hope the problem is minor and quickly fixable, and that she will soon be on her way.

Exactly. Having lived in the Eastern Sierra metropolis of Bishop for a couple of years, I understand the relative nature of these things. Tonopah is not quite as isolated as, say, Flanigan.
