Snow in the Virginias

As is my normal home weekend routine, I had breakfast at the Wigwam this morning and walked to the Frontier Fun Center to bowl a few games on their half-price Sunday-before-noon special.

Looking at the Snow )

I had a good day on the lanes by my standards, rolling a combined 380 for three games. As I said on Twitter at the time, that might be the best three-game series I've ever bowled. I managed to get a couple of consecutive strikes, and had one five-frame sequence of marks. I keep thinking of signing up for bowling lessons (the cost includes a bowling ball).

Full Tanks, Full Wood Box

After breakfast at the Wigwam, I walked down to the Frontier Fun Center and bowled for the first time in weeks. (I'd blown such money as I had for such entertainment when I made the extra trip to San José to see Who's Holiday in December.) I'm obviously rusty, as my average was only 100 for three games, down from around 115.

When I got home, I found that Lisa had been trying to call me, but I hadn't heard the phone ringing in the noise of the bowling lanes. Apparently there had been an emergency call out from the fire station for someone of approximately my description and happening only a short distance from the house. By the time she'd got to the described location, North Lyon County FPD had already transported the person into Reno/Sparks for treatment. She was worried about me until I came home.

There was a tiny dusting of snow on the porch when I got up this morning, but it cleared for most of the first half of the day. However, rain and snow are heading our way. As I write this, a 70-mile stretch of I-80 in the Sierra is closed due to white-out conditions. We may get some snow this evening. Lisa hitched up the utility trailer and we went to Big R and bought another pallet of 240 North Idaho Energy Logs and got them loaded into the wood box. After that, we took an empty propane bottle down to Hanneman Service to get refilled. We got lucky there, as the only person on duty was just about to head out on a road-service call, but refilled our bottle before going out to do the tow. Apologies to whoever's AAA rescue we delayed by a few minutes.

Time to hunker down in the warm indoors and let it snow.

Bowling Along

In my attempts to relax a little bit and get back to normal life after the two weeks of insanity that was Worldcon 76, I had breakfast at the Wigwam (spending the money I won yesterday) and went bowling at the Frontier Fun Center.

Could've Done Better )

Today I spent a long time reading a large backlog of messages dating back to before Worldcon started, but I'm still not done. And I did help Lisa a little bit with the home improvement projects that we can do now that the weather isn't so mind-numbingly hot.

Bowling For Bears

On weekends when I am at home and not busy, I have started going bowling after breakfast at the Wigwam Restaurant. (They have half-price bowling from 9 to Noon on Sundays.) Today, for a change, Lisa came along with me, not to play, but to watch, and that of course meant that Kuma Bear came along as well.

Bear Ball )

I managed to get just over 300 pins over three games, which is okay, but below what I had been doing. I continue to toy with the idea of buying my own ball and shoes if I'm going to do this regularly. However, I'm going to be busy for the next couple of weekends (not least of which is Westercon!), and much of the rest of summer with Worldcon 76 looming, so I may not get back into the swing of things until September.

Still Wobbly

I do not quite get why I've been wobbly all weekend, but I was. It was a bit better today, so after breakfast (and winning the cost of my breakfast on my free-play coupon from the Wigwam), I decided to chance bowling. It was difficult. But despite my slight dizziness — or possibly because of it on account of having to concentrate harder to overcome it — I rolled 118+124+161=403, the best three-game run I've ever had, including a run of five consecutive marks in that last game. But it left me dripping with sweat, so I went home (after collecting my mail from the post office), and I once again hope to take it relatively easy today. The most adventurous thing we're likely to do is go buy some groceries.

I know that Lisa and I have some adventures at times, but right now we're both in a state where we need a series of quiet weeks to rest up for the next set of trips.
