Match Game at Worldcon: Game Back On

I'm pleased to announce that it looks like we'll be able to do one show of Match Game SF at this year's Worldcon in Spokane after all.

Lisa and I have been talking about this quite a bit, and during our trip to Carson City on Saturday came to the conclusion that as long as we did the show in the evening and not on the night of the Hugo Awards, we could probably pull it off. That's because we expect to need many hours post-Business Meeting for me to do post-meeting meetings and to get the BM videos online as soon as possible -- and ASAP here is likely to still mean hours, not minutes, due to the needs of post-production and the sheer amount of time it takes to get a series of 45-minute videos uploaded. (If you've never done this, you aren't likely to understand the amount of time you spend waiting for things to happen.)

So I went back to Spokane's Programming head, and after some back-and-forth discussion it looks like we should be able to do a show on Thursday night (the second night of the convention) from 8 PM to about 10 PM. That's about as late as I'd want to run because we need to be up earlier than most people for the WSFS meeting.

I thank those of you who sent messages saying they were disappointed that they wouldn't get to see our show in Spokane. That was a contributing factor toward our seeing if there was any way we could make it work while still living up to our primary commitments to WSFS.

I'm glad for you.

May I suggest putting together a checklist of things needing to be done. With new recruits as helpers, and all the other stuff going on for you, Lisa, and Kuma, a written "this needs to happen before" and a "this needs to happen after" list could smooth things considerably.

If I can't be there in person, I'd like to think I can help from a distance.

I'll work on questions too.

Lisa says you're a genius, and she'd never thought of that. With such a checklist, we can put an associate producer at work unpacking/packing while she and I do the things that only she and I can do.

If you get a version of it ready for Westercon, you can run it for testing three times while you're more-or-less just normally stressed. LOL.

I am honestly surprised by this. I'd have figured that between the two of you there would be ready-printed checklists, if not Gantt charts, covering the pre-convention preparation stage. A how-to list user friendly enough for randomly found volunteers is a great idea.

It's easier to organize other peoples' lives than your own. Much of the information is kept in our heads.

It occurred to me later that the answer was "Lisa knows what's needed." That sort of thing is hard to transfer to other heads.

I'm very glad to hear this!

Fantastic. Definitely see what you can farm out to friends. The more hands the less work for you two.

I'm up for my usual when playing first chair if you want me. I'd also suggest asking David Gerrold if he'd like to be a star; I suspect he'd be quite good at it.

I asked Programming to invite you. David would indeed be a good panelist.

Are you going to be at Westercon? We have three shows scheduled, and I'd be happy to have you on all of them.
