Screw Loose

Staggering out of bed this morning in the hotel here in Lisle, I reached over and put on my glasses, whereupon I immediately felt the left lens fall out and land on my foot. Darn it, the screw has come loose. Shortly thereafter, the screw itself popped out of the frame, but fortunately I was able to find it by feeling around on the patterned carpet. Going through my briefcase and computer bag, I could not find my glasses repair kit. It has presumably gone away after a couple of changes of briefcases and bags.

This is annoying. I can survive without my glasses for a while, because the correction is relatively slight, but I do want to get it fixed. The very fact that I can compose this and read mail, albeit that I'm squinting slightly so my eyes will focus on the same spot. I wonder if the hotel's front desk has a little mini-screwdriver. And I must not lose the tiny screw!

Update, 11:50 AM: My co-worker drove me to the office. (I can legally drive without my glasses, but I don't like doing so.) One of our IT people had the necessary tiny screwdriver and I was able to reassemble my glasses. Hooray!

But the tiny screw is already loose!

Losing it, OTOH, would be bad...

*Doh!*

Fixed.

Been there, done that. Lost the screw!

I finally had to resort to having the hotel bring me to where I was working (cannot safely, not to mention legally, drive without glasses) and then have a co-worker take me somewhere to get them repaired.

I suspect that the AirTouch (now Verizon) office in North Seattle probably still has my nose prints on a couple of its computer monitors.

I always thought you had a screw loose, Kevin. Thanks for confirming it. :)

So many screw jokes, so little time. :-)

Usually they have those repair kits in hotel gift shops.

Which is somewhere I would have looked had the hotel had such a shop. This place is way out in "no-man's land." Lots of big hotels and office campuses, no services. Everything is a long drive from everything else.

Update, 21:00: Upon further review, this place does have a gift shop, and one that stocks eyeglass-repair kits. It's just hidden away in the back of the hotel. Surprisingly, the front desk did not refer me to them this morning. Had they done so, my morning would have been less stressful.

Although I repaired my glasses with the help of our IT person providing the necessary screwdriver, I bought a kit this evening anyway so that I will have one in my briefcase again.
