Today, I actually got to eat lunch, and then I rolled (on a hand cart) one of our propane bottles down to Hanneman Service to refill it. (Yes, we still use propane in warm weather, for cooking and now for operating the hot water heater in the travel trailer, in order to reduce our electric load.) While doing so, I actually paid attention to a sign in the window of a local Heating/AC business.

Now Hiring HVAC Technition

This spelling error is not a one-off mistake. It's repeated on another sign on the front of the building, and I noticed it's even on one of their trucks. I suspect that nobody has ever pointed it out to them.

Maybe I'm being picky, but it seems to me that if you make a spelling mistake like this on your signage, it suggests that you don't pay attention to details. When I hire someone to work on my plumbing, heating, or air conditioning, I want someone who wants to get the details right, because that means the work is likely to last. Maybe that's why we've been so happy with Marraccini Plumbing Heating & Cooling and Steve-the-plumber who has worked so much on our house.

I've had a personal policy for many years not to patronize any online vendors who can't be arsed to spell their ads correctly. It's rare that I see something as egregious in meatspace, but you've got it here.

I hope they know how to spell "ignition" as it seems to have influenced their spelling decision here...

English is hard, and spelling isn't the expertise one normally seeks in a heating and air conditioning company. But this sort of mistake would give me pause, too.

Did you point it out to them?

It seems someone should

I used to have the same policy, but I am slowly mellowing. I see far too many such mistakes, seemingly everywhere. (It does NOT help to have the "proofreading gene" where I automatically spot errors.) My still-evolving policy is to shake my head but try to be lenient.

Also the parking notice is missing an apostrophe.

It is apparently a common error amongst people from distant lands who are one:
