Looks Like Snow But Isn't *Achoo*

It's that time of year again, when the cottonwood trees demonstrate how they got their name.



Here's a cottonwood tree in the lot next to our house. No wonder my eyes hurt.

When the wind comes up (as happens quite often here), the air fills with cottonwood seeds, looking like a snowstorm but making my eyes itch like crazy. Yesterday we had a brief thunderstorm that tamped down the pollen a bit, but it's heating up again, so we can expect a new storm of itchy seed pods any time now.

Man, I remember the year we came up to Reno for our anniversary a few years back. We drove out to Gerlach (this was before gridlore started Burning with me) and had lunch at Bruno's, and I remember watching the cottonwood just flying past the windows as we sat there.

Doug's had a miserable week here with grass pollen; he's looking forward to going up to the Giants game tonight just to be somewhere he can breathe for a couple of hours.
