Beating Back the Bushes

Back in March I took this photo, in which you can see the stalk of a branchless and leafless bush. Here at the end of spring, the bush has grown bushy with a vengeance.

We don't water any of the plants on the property, but they seem to find water somehow, and there has been plenty of sun, so the bush has grown like crazy.
Yesterday, Lisa had had enough, and got out the clippers to trim this thing back enough to where we could use the south steps to the porch without infringement by this overgrown bush. And here I thought I might have done some harm to it when I cut it back severely last fall.
