Most but not all cons that I have been to usually have a charity auction of some sort and that is where they give to the community. Often the guest og honor picks the charity. A 501(c)(3) corp is defined as a public benefit corporation. I think I still qualify as a "public" and certainly all fans are of the "public". Benefiting fans who happen to be public is on the whole a rather good Idea. The rest of that argument is just garbage.
