With a 2 PM checkout and a 4 PM train departure, we didn't set an alarm last night and we slept for about ten hours. This doesn't repay the sleep deficit from the past week, but it does make a down payment on it. Speaking of down payments, I see that I received a small unexpected bonus payment in my last paycheck, which will allow me to make a dent in my Worldcon expenses, starting with a $2,200 hotel bill.

We hope that we'll be able to visit the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge in Chicago after we get there tomorrow morning on the Capitol Limited, because it seems unlikely that the hotel will let us check in at 9 AM. We hope to put our bags in the self-storage room, find a quiet corner, and then call the hotel to find out when they'll take us. I don't remember if passengers arriving off a sleeper get to use the lounge or if you have to be departing that same day. (Our next trip is one day later, on the City of New Orleans.)

I'm now fairly sure that I've been within a few meters of someone at this convention who has tested positive for COVID-19; however, neither Lisa nor I have symptoms. (Legs that feel like they are on fire from having spent so much time on hard concrete floors is not a symptom of COVID-19.) We hope to pick up more tests in Chicago tomorrow and self test that day, then again after we get to New Orleans on Christmas Day. Goodness only knows what we'll do if we do test positive, though. We have taken all of our meals in our hotel rooms/sleeper compartments during this trip. The only times I ate or drank in public, I briefly lifted my mask, took the bite/sip, then re-masked. We continue to wear N95 masks like we've been doing this entire trip, and we have multiple spares remaining in supply.
