Glad Lisa is getting better. As someone who requires regular (roughly annual) ear-canal-cleaning, I'm surprised the doctor went the "digging" route. That's both tedious and uncomfortable -- in fact, it's one of the few procedures my doctor has done where I've told him "STOP!" because of the discomfort. Now, normally, he uses an ear syringe filled with warm-to-hot water. Pressure, yes, but pain, no, and in a few squirts the ear gunk flushes away. Once, when I had to go to an Urgent Care facility to take care of this, they used a Waterpik instead of an ear syringe and it worked fine, too...and I wondered if that was something that could be used at home.
I hope Lisa doesn't have to go through this again, but if she does, there are some options to consider.
