In all fairness to Gnomeward Bound, I don't have much of a complaint about the description of a Westercon used in the mini-PR embedded in the BayCon Progress Report. When promoting Westercon at Norwescon a few years ago, I used a similar description. This is important when you're trying to describe other conventions to people whose only experience is the local con. There seem to be lots of people in the Northwest who go to Norwescon and nothing else. I think there must be hundreds of fans who go to BayCon and nothing else.
In contrast, I described Worldcon to the "I only go to BayCon" people as "sort of like holding two-and-a-half BayCons all at once and stretching over five days instead of four."
