Driving to work today, I could feel a significant improvement in my van's performance. It doesn't vibrate anymore (that was caused by misfiring cylinders) and it accelerates faster.

OTOH, when I pulled out onto the freeway, the Service Engine Soon light came on. Argh! Oh, well, I have to take it back on Tuesday to have the rest of the work done anyway, so I can tell my mechanic and he can investigate. With luck it will be something minor or included with what he still has to replace anyway.

No, but I'll try that. I would be surprised if it was that problem this time, though, as I haven't refueled lately; the tank is about 3/4 full. Still, it doesn't hurt to cover that base.

Sometimes they're purely on a timer, mine is.

So if the garage forgot the reset last time they did something it might just come on.

I don't think my van (a 1989 Chevy Astro) is sophisticated enough to have that timer function; besides, my mechanic said that they reset the computer on account of having to disconnect the battery while they were doing the other fixes. Still, I will let him know about it.
