Yesterday evening around 6:30 PM, I decided to walk over to a nearby pizza place and play the Lord of the Rings pinball machine they have there. Four hours later, I left because they were closing, and was obliged to leave behind one credit on the machine. Total expenditure for the four hours: $1.50. And I hadn't put any money in the machine since 8:30. I simply kept winning games. Not bad.

This isn't the first time that I've forfeited credits on a pinball machine because the venue was closing. It's mildly annoying, but I can't say that I haven't gotten my money's worth. I was really "on" last night, and the machine was feeling pretty generous, too, giving me four post-game match free games as well.

I once racked up 12 credits and was over an hour playing a single machine. Some younger kids (8-10) were complaining I was hogging the machine (there were other machines at the lodge hall), so they went and got the bar tender/manager.

Who told me that an hour on same machine was excessive and would I please give up the machine.

"Sure, but what about my credits?"

"Ummm..."

"I don't want to be forced to 'give' them to the kids. They've been obnoxious since I started playing."

"Oh, no problem." He opened up the machine, grabbed some quarters and reset the machine. And went back to the bar.

First thing out of the kids mouths???

"We don't have any money, can we have a quarter to play?"

I just stuffed the quarters he gave me and pocket and walked away.

Yes.

Collect all nine members of the Fellowship to activate Fellowship of the Ring multiball: the Balrog target appears to the narration of Gandalf saying, "A balrog! This foe is beyond any of you...Run!" Then hit the balrog to qualify the ramps for escape; shoot a ball through the ramp to cross one member of the Fellowship; then repeat the process until you get all of the members across.

Collect three balls in the Sword Lock to start The Two Towers multiball, which take the form of the Battle of Helm's Deep, with the various ramps and loops qualified for big points. Hit the targets enough time to activate Scaling Ladders, Walls are Breeched, Fall Back to the Keep, etc.

Collect 5000 souls in the Paths of the Dead to qualify Return of the King multiball: loops and ramps qualify for big points of different sorts.

After completing all multiballs, shoot Destroy the Ring, then hit all four ramps and loops and shoot Destroy the Ring again to start Ring multiball, during which if you can hit Destroy the Ring a third time, you actually complete the sequence for very big points.

There are also targets to complete the 3 rings, 7 rings, and 9 rings to qualify things like Gollum Multiball; during Gollum mulitball, the field alternates between Smeagol (all scores 2x) and Gollum (all scores 1/2). Complete all rings for Ring Frenzy.

Complete various missions like Kill the Witch-King to light Gift of the Elves. Complete everything to start There and Back Again (I've never managed this).

And there's more.

I think there was night at Pages in London when i ended up leaving over 20 Credits in the ST:TNG machine because they were closing. Again i'd only put a quid in, but as I'd worked out the video segment that always gives a credit plus was seriously in the zone that night I got around four hours playtime - of course that was 15 years ago lol ...
