Yes, I spent most of today sat on (or in front) of the sofa watching the Super Bowl. That's when I wasn't sleeping, which I did a lot of. I even managed to get out for a walk after breakfast, which I had about Noon.

I enjoyed the game a lot, but let me add my voice to those who thought that halftime show was painful. I guess they figured there couldn't be an embarrassing "wardrobe malfunction" with the Who. It's funny-but-tragic that they would be considered a safe, conservative choice. I wasn't the only person I saw who said they sounded like a bad cover band of themselves. Sad.

The advertisements were not very good, I think. I was particularly annoyed that at least two ads had the underlying message that being a good husband/boyfriend made you into a wimp and that you should stand up and be a Real Man.

Anyway, I reckon they'll be partying all night long in the French Quarter, and maybe for days to come. Mardi Gras has come early!

Alas, now I need to get back to work, because there are things that need to be done tonight before the folks back east come to work tomorrow morning.

Well, I enjoyed see The Who *.5 I think for 60-some-odd year olds, they're doing pretty good. It's been 21 years since I'd seen them live (and that was The Who *.75) so I can't remember what they were like. What I was a little upset about was that the seemed to concentrate on all their CSI hits - and truncated other songs.

I was glad that I got to watch the last half. I'm not a big sports fan, but that was exciting (and Jerry was rooting for the Saints all along...)

Some commercials were good, but I can't say they're memorable...

Um, no, guys. Really. You didn't.

My mother (who saw The Who on the Tommy revival tour and loved them) thought it was a cover band. The ads were mostly miss, although I loved the fiddling beaver spot.

Luckily, we had an awesome second half to erase the halftime show from our minds. Jeremy Shockey has to be the happiest man on Earth right now, two years after being told his career was over, he owns a ring he helped win.

Now bring on baseball season!

I have to agree about the Who, they looked and sounded old.

You're right about that second half.

Speaking of old rockers and Super Bowl ads, how about KISS making fun of their own image in the Dr. Pepper ad? "A little kiss" indeed. I liked the visual pun myself, but then, I also like people willing not to take themselves completely seriously.

The first spot in that series from last year, with Gene and his son, is equally hysterical.

Gene Simmons' Family Jewels is actually a fascinating series: The glam-rock god, the Playboy centerfold, and their two phenomenally together kids. After the train wreck that was The Osbournes - both series and family - it's reassuring to see that you can come out of a background like that and still be NORMAL.

edited to add in the other commercial

Agreed on all counts. I still smile when I see that commercial. It won't get me to drink cherry Dr. Pepper, but I do like the ad.

The Dr. Pepper ad was okay. Best Ad I saw was the trailer for Alice in Wonderland. If the movie is as interesting as that trailer, then it has a chance at Hugo nomination next year.

The second half was a great game and I thought we were going to have our third overtime of the playoffs. I was really thinking that there wasn't going to be much defense on either side. The Saints played pretty good defense and can take the ball away.

The Who: I thought the guy with the microphone looked eerily like Dave Langford, and the one with the guitar needed to button the rest of his shirt. I'm prepared to file the latter under "wardrobe malfunction".

Ads: Hmm. I thought the Cars.com one was pretty good. I also think it cannot be a coincidence that the two ads featuring men who really needed to put on some pants were shown one right after the other.
