It is amazing how a little disruption in the train line can cascade into major schedule problems for the trains.

A few months ago, at the hight of the El Niño rains, a flood closed the tracks through San Diego County just north of where I was getting on at Sorrento Valley for an hour or so. But this caused at least two Coaster trains, and both a North and South bound Surfliner to be delayed for much longer.

Of course it probably didn't help that for the rest of the day the speed limit in the impacted section was reduced to "I could probably keep up the the train walking" speed - probably less than 2 MPH.
