kevin_standlee: (Hugo Trophy)

I submitted my Hugo Awards nominations today. As Cheryl Morgan pointed out here, the deadline for nominating is next Friday. Don't wait until the last minute; fill out your ballot sooner rather than later. If you need some suggestions, you can find a bunch of them on the Emerald City Hugo Recommendations Page

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cherylmorgan and I being able to talk for free over Skype (once I got my headset working; the sound card had stopped recognizing the microphone), we remembered that Ion Trails (you can download it at that link), the "in-flight magazine" of the WSFS Armadillo is eligible in Related Book. Funny thing is that I knew that at the time, and forgot about it until just today, probably because I keep thinking of the category under its older name "Best Non-Fiction Book."

Even if you don't nominate anything with which I'm involved -- even if you go out of your way to nominate other works because you think I'm being crass for even pointing out the works' eligibility -- if you can nominate, then please do so. The more people nominate, the broader base we get for the awards and, in my opinion, the better they will be.

*sniff* Alas, I don't think the CD is eligible in any category.

A pity, that, as it deserves recognition. If we'd made the category Best Related Work, which as I recall has been opposed, then you'd be in the clear.

Heh. No worries. I'll just join Sparks at the bar and drown my deep and abiding sorrow (in my case, in Diet Coke, but still...).

Well, yeah, but at least Sparks' work has a category (BDP Short, for "Spaceport Glasgow"). Still, since none of us are going to win Hugos, perhaps I can join you for a Diet Coke.

Kevin, perhaps you can help me out. I don't know what happened to my reciepts in my move, so I don't know my member number. My name appears on teh list of those with memberships, but every request to change my address has gone unanswered and I've never recieved a single mailing. I have followed all the instructions on th LACon web site, and I do get mail here...

Thanks.

Yeah...and now I'm watching the Academy Awards, and there's a damned good chance I won't win an Oscar, either. Bummer.

L.A.con IV CoA/Member Status

Well, you probably already know this, but there is the Change of Address Form on the L.A.con IV web site.

I can't find any point of contact for retrieving your membership number and PIN, so if I were in your shoes, I'd write to John Lorentz, the Hugo Administrator. Do it now, so you're not cutting is closer on deadline day.

I'd say it was an e-book myself. Go ahead and nominate it.

I have to say I was surprised that "Spaceport Glasgow" was on a recommendation list!. (and secretly chuffed! As Kevin and Kent should be) However, are you sure, that it's BDP short, 4 days is certainly over the 90 minutes :-)

I'll be happy for anybody to join me in the bar, although I'm not convinced that diet Coke is a sufficent replacement for a Hugo.

Mind you if anybody feels sorry for me they can always vote for me in the TAFF race. :-P

Just in case anyone reading this is confused by the 4 days/90 minutes commment, "Spaceport Glasgow" refers only to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a two-part dramatic presentation, which combined fall within short form in my opinion.

Spoilsport, I was hoping that if there were some nominations it would count as the longest nominated work ever, if we took the whole spaceport Glasgow concept as a single performance,

:-)
