You're right on both counts. Bear in mind that I've lived a fairly significant part of my life in the country: my home town is a small village in the Sierra Nevada mountains, I've lived on a number of moderately-isolated US Forest Service outposts where my father was stationed, and lived for six years with my grandparents on their farm in the rural area north of Sacramento. There are compensations for country life, but there's also a whole bunch of work (or else you have to pay someone else to do the work).
In a staff meeting for my job, someone made a joke about the TV show "Green Acres," and I pointed out that to a lesser extend I lived that life, or at least elements of it. But I don't try to split logs or shift wood chips or gravel while wearing a business suit.
