I've been approached with the idea of doing some game shows at BayCon this year. It's still in the talking stages, and I need to find all of the props, which are in a bag in a box somewhere, but it's been long enough since we last did the show that maybe the questions won't seem like they're being recycled. I can also throw out the questions that failed badly the last time we did the show.

Match Game questions can fail in different ways. One is if they're simply not funny. Another is if they're too obvious and have only one clear answer. While the contestant is happy if they match all six panelists, you don't really want that to happen very often.

I wonder if [livejournal.com profile] hollister2008 might be interested in sponsoring the game shows? We could give stuff to the winners, along with "lovely parting gifts" for the losers, along with plugs for the bid. I did that with the (then) San Francisco in 2002 Worldcon bid back in 1998. Winners got bars of Ghirardelli chocolate, while losers got boxes of Rice-a-Roni.

You going to be at Norwescon?

Nope, not this year. I go to NWC about one year in three on the average, and usually only when I'm promoting something. Instead, I'm going to go visit my grandfather and mother (and also take many boxes of stuff to put in my storage locker).

Remembering what happened with (a much younger) Eileen Martz when you did Match Game back then, it might behoove you to have a couple of family-friendly questions stuck in a back pocket somewhere in case you wind up with another underage contestant....

Oy, do I remember that one. Urk. I think I may need to point out that Match Game is PG-13 for innuendo.

I've done Trek-themed Family Feud a couple of times. It works really well. I didn't have too bad a time thinking up questions (ideally with 1-2 obvious answers and a few more of varying difficulty). The tough part was finding enough people to survey in advance, especially since those people couldn't participate in the game. It's best to do this when you were already planning to attend a con with different people than the ones you are doing the game for, and survey people there (and swear them to secrecy).

It was very time consuming, but people really enjoyed it, so totally worth doing.

If Casa de Hollister does sponsor, I'd suggest something like apples and grapes for winner and loser.

I like it. Preferably sour grapes, yes?

Maybe not sour, but they should have seeds.

I'm all over the idea

I ran into Fat Tony the other day. He's really gone downhill in his Gangstering. When he shook down local shop owners for their protection payment, he didn't have a gun, he just showed them his blank!

If there's Match Game, and if I can be one of the Panelists (Richard Dawson or that seat on the bottom left side that changed all the time with my fave being Rosie Greer) I'm all in for helping.

I think there are hundreds of things at Casa de Fruta that would be perfect. They have a bunch of dirt cheap merch with the logo on it that would work.

I am more inclined to put Tom Galloway -- if he wants to participate -- in the Richard Dawson chair, so I think it's seat 1 or 4 for you.
