CWSFA AWARDS CONRUNNING SCHOLARSHIP
The Canada West Science Fiction Association (CWSFA) has awarded a scholarship of $500 to Barbara M. Scutt to help her attend the ConComCon (“C-Cubed”) convention-runners convention in Cle Elum, Washington this year over the weekend of June 2-4, 2006.
ConComCon is an annual convention about organizing science fiction (and other related subjects including fantasy, comics, anime, etc.) conventions. Subject matter focuses on organizing local and regional conventions, with an emphasis on the Pacific Northwest. The 2006 C-Cubed will be in Cle Elum WA at the Cascade Mountain Inn, June 2-4, 2006. More information about this year's C-Cubed is available on their web site, http://www.swoc.org/ccubed/.
The C-Cubed scholarship was open to anyone involved in running science fiction conventions, with an emphasis on benefiting conventions in Western Canada. Although CWSFA originally offered two scholarships, the scholarship administrators (Kevin Standlee, Randy McCharles, and John Mansfield) recommended that, based on the applications received, that only one be awarded, and the CWSFA Board of Directors approved this recommendation.
CWSFA was the parent non-profit corporation of Due North/Westercon 58, the 2005 West Coast Science Fantasy Conference, held in Calgary July 1-4, 2005. Funding for this scholarship is provided from surplus funds of Westercon 58.
