I managed to get out for a walk after lunch today. It's a lovely springlike day, with trees coming in to bloom regardless of what the calendar says. As the walking path skirted a hill full of squirrel burrows, I watched the little furry critters with amusement. In many cases, I couldn't see them unless they moved. Suddenly, they all scattered and dove for their burrows, even though I wasn't anywhere near them. I was momentarily puzzled until the shadow of a red-tailed hawk passed overhead. The squirrels had obviously seen it before I did and also had more to lose by not seeing it.
