I've recently had experience with another Hilton property that prompts this. Not in Sacramento. At this Hilton, the room quality seems highly variable. From one that was perfect as far as such things go to one where both physical plant and housekeeping are, um, less than stellar. Not up to Motel 6 in fact.
And the rooms are four doors apart.
I don't doubt this happens in many places, not just Hilton. But it bought me up short. The cost was the same for both.
I've been to Sacramento once before: November and into December 1990 - I wasn't going anywhere over Thanksgiving, so I volunteered to babysit a customer site after a software upgraded over that weekend.
However, I instantly recognized The Red Lion (or at least it was in 1990) just across the freeway in the first picture. OK, I'd done some map poking and the like so I knew that where The Hilton was in relationship to The Red Lion. On the other hand, I recognized The Red Lion and confirmed by spotting the freeway, not the other way around.
