It's a common problem with all styles of mini-DIN connector. I suspect that's one reason for the move toward rectanguloid connectors of the USB or HDMI type. There is a "professional" variant of the S-Video connexion using a much sturdier terminal, of the type also used for the (incompatible) "dub" connector on certain kinds of VCRs, but it never caught on. Then, of course, there is the Amiga monitor solution of having separate jacks for the Y and C signals.
