Morale Booster

Thank you for the positive messages (including the ones posted elsewhere that I can see) about the work I've been doing. I know it takes a lot more effort to post positive messages than negative ones, and intellectually I know I should be counting the positives more than the negatives, but wow, it's not easy. I can certainly see why some really talented conrunners have reached the point of saying, "Why in the world should I keep doing this when the people who actually benefit from my work are the ones screaming at me the loudest? Why shouldn't I walk away and just let it die and then see people screaming even louder that the things aren't getting done?"

Anyway, thank you again for letting me know that there are people who appreciate what I and others have done and that I'm not some Evil Person Out To Destroy The World the way some folks seem to think I am.

I think I was too busy being gobsmacked to say it - but good grief, the amount of good you do in explaining to folks, in keeping a calm head when all around you are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, in just being more positive than negative about whatever ridiculous situation has been thrown at you *this* time - hang in there - you make a difference, dude.

I hate to break it to you, Kevin, but if you're trying to destroy the world, you've chosen a pretty ineffectual technique. Covering up the Great Hugo-Fixing Conspiracy Which Is Totally Irrelevant Because The Hugos Don't Matter Anyway might have been effective during the Johnson administration, which was the high point for Old White Male control, because of what Johnson is a synonym for, but the sympathetic magic just isn't there anymore, man!

I'm not involved with Worldcon or US fandom, so I can't speak to that, but from what I do know of you, I think you're a pretty fine man and friend.
