Along with the photos of me from Aussiecon Three, Lisa produced two photos from what I think was the last FanimeCon held at Foothill College, long before it became the monstrous huge pop culture event it is today. Lisa wore two of her costumes at that convention.

Lisa Hayes as Lisa Hayes

Lisa has a great fondness for Commander Lisa Hayes from Robotech: The Macross Saga. (Aside: anyone who wants to nitpick Robotech can save their typing and my heartburn.) Here she is kitted out as her namesake character.

She had another costume that is great to look at but really difficult to wear for long periods.

Lisa Hayes as Sailor Jupiter

Lisa's Sailor Jupiter costume looks great. At a Norwescon, she was wearing it when a group of fans threw themselves at her feet and said, "We adore Sailor Jupiter! We've come to worship you."

She turned to me and said, "I could get used to this."

Getting boots that match Jupiter is not easy. She ended up with these close matching boots, but they're really hard on her feet, and thus she only has a very limited time she can be out and about in the costume.

There is a pocket in the Robotech outfit, but the Sailor Scouts don't seem to have any way to store anything. They seem to get whatever they need out of "hammerspace." Consequently, she needed the Sailor Jupiter Support Squad (me) carrying stuff and providing logistical support.

The boots may have been hell on the feet but they do look adorable with the outfit.

My Nightcrawler costume had the same problem as Lisa's Sailor Jupiter, nowhere for a pocket to be included. She was lucky to have you to act as support staff.

[personal profile] gridlore and I always refer to that as "katanaspace," so I was pleased to see that the Highlander TV series rated a mention on that wiki page.

Many years ago, Lisa was at my house when she realized that the local anime club's Halloween gathering was that evening - but she had left the boots in Mehama. (You may remember this story but I'm sure not all your readers know it.) She was prepared to drive the Big Orange Van down there to get them, but then I pointed out that it would be just as possible to drive down there in my VW Beetle. Significant fact about Beetles: they are small and relatively fuel efficient. She topped me up from the big farm tank near the church anyway, making a reference to the scene in Heinlein's Rolling Stones where the giant liner tops up the Stone family rocket's tanks and pointing out that a little fuel for one goes a long way on the other.

And yes, we got back with plenty of time and her Sailor Jupiter costume was very popular at the anime club.

Someone, a long time ago in Internet terms, put out a con report entitled "You Can't Spell FanimeCon Without 'Famine'", but it seems to be no longer on the Web.
