Last night, it appeared that I had somehow managed to lose ten pounds over the weekend at Last Guest Con, which seemed unlikely. This morning, I noticed that a bit of the bathmat in the bathroom had worked its way under one corner of the scale, which distorted the reading. After fixing this, I found that my weight was basically unchanged from last week, which is more like what I would expect.

While waiting for the AirBART bus, one of the people in line said, jokingly, "Anyone want to buy five Euros?"

I said, "I'll buy them." (I know I can hand them off to someone going that way eventually.)

"Seriously?" she said, and I nodded.

I offered her USD5 for her EUR5. She looked unhappy. "They're worth more than that."

I shrugged. "Yes, but you can spend five dollars here now."

She accepted my offer. Part of me thinks I should have offered her $6, which is what the EUR5 was worth at current rates, but I note that she wouldn't have been able to change the Euro coins at her bank -- they only want notes -- so I try not to feel bad about it. Besides, I have to hold onto the Euros until I can send them back to a place they're spendable when I run across someone going that way.

I put $10 into a Super Bowl Pool here at work. $200 if your box matches the last digit of the score at the end of each quarter and the final score. At first, I thought there was something wrong in that formula, but remembered that the 4th quarter and final scores might not be the same if the game goes into overtime.

They held the draw today, and I drew the intersection of 8 and 6, per the headline above. I'm trying to work out the likeliest ways to get to those scores, and I don't think I like my chances that much.

Lately, at the weekly BASFA meeting at the Original Hick'ry Pit restaurant, I have been ordering the "full slab" of St. Louis Ribs, which is way too big for one meal, but is about two meals or so, then eating half of it and taking the rest home to have for dinner the next day or lunch spread over the next two days. This makes the meal more cost-effective. Tonight, unfortunately, I got distracted with the Hugo Nominations Discussion Nights we're doing, and was halfway home before I realized that I'd left my half-slab of leftover ribs and trimmings in the room. Even if I'd turned around and headed back, the restaurant would have been closed already. Darnit! I hate the waste of both my money and of good ribs.
