WSFS Inc! To The Barricades!

Over in the hollister2008 area, a discussion of "Permanent Organizaton of WSFS" has arisen. I've pointed out, without speaking for or against such a proposal, that this isn't a new subject, that it's been argued over since before I was born, and that it's inherently controversial. Of course, since it was about fifteen years since the subject last came up on the floor of a Business Meeting, enough fannish generations may have passed that the battle will be fought again.

While there might be advantages of a centralized, permanent, incorporated WSFS, the primary reason it doesn't happen is political, in that fans are fractious and independent-minded and don't like other people telling them what to do. It's something of a wonder we get as much accomplished as we do now.
