Oil Change & Wireless

Somewhat to my surprise, we got done early today -- possibly the late nights and early mornings I've been putting in this week accomplished something after all. So I was able to get away early enough to take the van to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, for which it was due. While sitting waiting for them to work on my van, I fired up my laptop computer. Somewhat to my surprise, it told me there was a wireless network available. Investigating, I found that the cafe next to the Newark Jiffy Lube has an open wireless connection and I could reach it. This allowed me to check my work e-mail, which was handy as a message had come in and I was happy to reply sooner rather than later. I would have posted to my LJ from there, too, but by the time I was ready to do so, they'd already finished working on the van and it was time to leave.

That's a Long Way from Rivendell...

While driving away from my office today, I was surprised to see crossing the street in front of me someone who looked remarkably like solarbird. Of course it couldn't be her -- Seattle is too far away! But this woman was the same height and build, and even had the same hair, which is IMO really saying something. She was striding purposefully along, which further put me in mind of solarbird, but for the reason why, you'll have to go read her LJ.
