I fell asleep listening to the Giants game around 7:30 PM last night. I then woke up again around 1:30 AM and got to listen to the part of the game I missed originally on the Giants Midnight Replay.

After fitfully sleeping for less than an hour, I decided my body had had enough sleep for tonight and that I might as well get up and watch the Formula One GP of Singapore live rather than on tape delay.

As I mentioned in my previous entry, the only reason I could watch today's F1 GP of Singapore was because I woke up absurdly early after going to bed early last night. It turns out that I was lucky, because I discovered that, thanks to a power glitch a few days ago, I had mis-programmed the recorder, and it was recording a blank channel. If I hadn't watched it live, I would have missed it entirely. And I'm glad that I got to see it.

The last time I mentioned the results of one of these races, other people who had not yet seen the result complained at me, so I will say to them: Watch the pit stops, particularly the first set, which is when all of the excitement begins. And I suspect Ferrari are going to have some pointed questions to answer to the press, the FIA, and to their own drivers.

I live close enough to the Centerville train station in Fremont that I can often hear a train blowing for the grade crossing at Fremont Blvd. If I happen to be at my computer, I sometimes click on the Centerville RailCam to see what's going past. For the past few weeks, however, I have not been able to see anything because foliage was covering the camera. Sometime recently, however, someone finally noticed and trimmed the tree, so you can see the platform and tracks again.

Incidentally, the window you see on the left side of that shot is where the other RailCam is located, in the bay window of the meeting room where SFSFC holds many of its Board meetings.

As luck would have it, while I was composing this message, I heard a horn, and clicked through to see an eastbound Capitol make its station stop at Centerville. (If you care to click through, the train arrives around frame 0928081913.)

Sure, the game doesn't have any bearing on the standings, but Tim Lincecum is contending for the Cy Young Award, and besides, it's the Dodgers. So I'm off to San Francisco for the day.

I had a wonderful day at the ball park today, and I got a huge amount of walking exercise done as well. This message is very long, so there are a bunch of cut-tags ahead. No pictures, but plenty of text.

As I'm still without my car, I walked over to Union City BART, stopping for breakfast at Hometown Buffet before taking the train up to San Francisco, where I walked to the ball park and bought a view reserved ticket for $34 -- no service charges or "convenience fees" when buying on the day. They asked me if I wanted first or third base side, and I said "third," while something nagged at me about why I might have wanted "first."

Returning to Fremont, I walked over to Walgreen's and bought new batteries for my radio, then had dinner at Chipotle and walked home, which took about 40 minutes -- about the same amount of time as it takes to walk to Union City BART. Not that I am likely to do the walks to either station as a regular thing, but it's good to know how far they are and how long it takes me to do it.

As of right now, my pedometer reads 17,439 steps today. And I can feel that in my feet right now, too. The two blisters I worked up yesterday, even taped up and padded as they were, are complaining at me. Still, it was worth it. The Giants season ends on an up-beat note, and we while this season overall was disappointing, there are elements of promise for the future. I definitely got my money's worth today.

For those of you who don't follow Cheryl's blog shame on you, note that she's posted a gallery of photos of our New Orleans trip, and she even threw in a few streetcar photos for my benefit.
