The weather seems to have solidly shifted into light-to-heavy rain, and the temperatures for the next few days will stay above freezing all day (although never more than about 6 degrees Celsius, if I'm reading the forecast correctly). So the snow is melting away and leaving lots of slush and mud behind.

San Francisco Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (SFSFC) has formally filed its bid to host the 2011 West Coast Science Fantasy Conference (Westercon 64) at Fairmont San José in downtown San José, California. The proposed dates of the convention are Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4, 2011. The bid had been previously announced in July 2008, but formal filing commits SFSFC to the bid and, in particular, to a choice of facilities.

No points for guessing what I was doing this afternoon if you've already seen my earlier posting about the SJ2011 Westercon bid having been formally filed. For the last couple of days, I've been kicking versions of the press release back and forth, and also cleaning up both the bid and corporate web sites so that they were correct (I hope) when we finally made the formal announcement. If you happened to visit the SJ2011 bid site anytime today, you might well have seen it in a state of semi-repair as I poked and prodded several of the pages to have the correct information about our hotel and our filing.

And then, when I got the word that the latest version of the announcement was ready to go, Lisa's father asked her to see why the marker lights weren't working on his car, so I put things aside for a little while to go hold tools for her as she did troubleshooting. She sweated over wiring diagrams and tested things all over the place, eventually tracing the problem to a failed light switch. This means we need to go order a new switch on Monday, but at least it doesn't appear to be anything more serious than that.
