In case you didn't feel like digging through all of the comments, [livejournal.com profile] drplokta concludes that the smallest city to host a Worldcon is Heidelberg in 1970.

Incidentally, I think that in such discussions, the question is "population at the time the place hosted the Worldcon," not "what is the place's population today?"

Cheryl has picked up a fascinating story that stems initially from one person's reaction to the loss of the Seattle Worldcon bid, but which also includes some, er, interesting proposals to "reform Worldcon." I'm closing comments on this message, because I think if you have an opinion to express on it, you should go over there and make it where the person who started it can see it, rather than here.
